Commitments

SHEFA strives to ensure transparency by sharing each producer’s ESG and impact data, and conducting impact assessments of every company that joins the platform in order to present their offerings to our community.

We nurture an inclusive community and corporate culture while creating and facilitating economic opportunities for women, rural residents and regenerative farmers.

Our partner technological platforms and rural innovation centers are built to serve smallholder farmers, rural artisans, indigenous communities, organic and regenerative agricultural producers.

We work with each of our Commerce and Currency partners to determine ESG risks, verify impact claims and product data.

Together, we consciously implement continuous improvement plans including impact measurement and management, stakeholder engagement, impact business models and regenerative agricultural practices.

Economy

We choose commercial partners who invest their product revenue in infrastructure and innovation, skills training, organic and regenerative agriculture, food processing best-practices, and impact business models. We seek to ensure each transaction we facilitate:

  • Leads to job creation as well as positive impact on employees through access to skills training and the continuous improvement of working conditions.
  • We aim to share products that are free of harmful chemicals and verified for content, effects and transparency

Environment

We prioritize listing products that are certified organic, regenerative organic, and grown without the utilization of chemicals. We screen for waste management and energy use practices. We strive to increase the use of alternatives to plastic practices, and prioritize the distribution of bioplastics and biodegradable solutions. We work with stakeholders who are involved in the processing, manufacturing and packaging of the retail products on our platform to support the implementation of environmental management best practices. We partner with companies and organizations working to preserve and heal our planetary ecosystems, especially our oceans.

Society

We help create benefit for previously underemployed or unemployed individuals by providing them with employment that ensures proper training, the improvement of long-term employment prospects and better access to healthcare benefits and pension funds. SHEFA serves the greater community by managing waste reduction initiatives, working with local stakeholders to support organic and regenerative farming practices. SHEFA provides training and support related to organic and regenerative agricultural practices to smallholder farmers and rural communities. SHEFA supports craft and local suppliers in reaching international markets.

We keep it local

We utilise a range of tools, including the GIIN IRIS metrics catalog, and B Impact Metrics developed by the B Lab non-profit organization as part of the B Impact Assessment for B Corp Certification to manage our impact. SHEFA utilizes the same screening tools to choose our Commerce partners and their products to be shared with our community. We actively work to realize positive impact outcomes across our company’s local environments and in the growth, knowledge, long-term health and financial security of our team members. We source and develop products that transform the local commercial landscape for the betterment of health and well-being across the wider global community. We source products from companies that are committed to reducing or eliminating their use of harmful chemicals. Within the technological and digital space, we develop our solutions in partnership companies that make a verifiable positive social and environmental impact.

Stakeholder Engagement

Our team continuously improves our engagement initiatives that relate to sourcing feedback and creating pathways for contribution from our suppliers, partners, customers, community members, and of course, our team.

Members of our permanent Advisory Board represent our suppliers, customers, and community organizations working in the geographic areas where we source and retail products on the SHEFA platform. We further establish and engage Stakeholder Boards for specific projects and initiatives. Feedback from our stakeholders guides our governance, business development process, impact business models, and we are proponents of active and large-scale collaboration through both formal Board membership, and through engagement driven by our online and rural innovation center community.
